Manually Setup for AVS server
In order to access your streaming server from outside on your iPhone or iPod
Touch, you have to set up the streaming IP address and port correctly, so that
iPhone or iPod can "see" your computer from the Internet via 3G or EDGE. AVS
server provides automatic network configuration functions. Based on the
feedback, 95% users will finish configuration by clicking on the auto-detection
button.
Although rare, but there are chances that uPnP cannot work out, and manual
setup is needed. It is not that hard, as long as you know how to log in to your
router.

Almost all routers provide http webpage based administration. Open your
browser, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc., then type in your router's
internal IP address.
How to find your router's internal IP address? Open a Command Prompt window,
type in "ipconfig", looking for "Default Gateway", as shown:
-
For manually set up, you also need two steps: (1) find your router's external
IP address, and (2) set up port forwarding.
-
Find your router's external IP address: You can login to your router, and
looking for status (or similar), here is an example for a Linksys router. You
can confirm this external IP address by visiting a website called
http://www.whatismyip.com.
You router's external IP address should NOT start
with 192.168 and 172.16. Those are your local IP address inside your home.

Port Forwarding: this will allow your iPhone to connect from outside, through
one port (server's streaming port). Use Linksys as an example, see image below.
After login to your server, look for "port forwarding" or similar. This will
forward port (for example 8006) of your router external IP address to port 8006
of your computer internal IP address.

Port forwarding is commonly used by many programs, you can visit following link
for more informations: www.portforward.com
-
Then you can use your iphone's Safari web browser to have a test. Set your
iPhone to 3G mode, and type in:
http://24.83.120.68:8006/test
You need replace 24.83.120.68 with your actual router's external IP address,
and replace 8006 with your streaming port, and add "/test" at the end. Remember
add ":" before port number.
