Auto Setup for AVS server

In order to access your streaming server from outside on your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have to set up the streaming IP address and port correctly, so that iPhone or iPod can "see" your computer from the Internet via 3G or EDGE.

AVS server provides automatic network configuration functions. Based on the feedback, 95% users will finish configuration by clicking on the auto-detection button.

  1. When AVS streaming server starts up, it will try to detect your router's IP address and setup port forwarding for you, when you click on the button "automatically detect streaming IP address and setup port forwarding" in the Settings Dialog. The auto-detection is based on uPnP protocol, which is supported by almost all routers today.

  2. If detection failed, you can try:
    • Re-power your router, and reboot your computer, try again.
    • Check your firewall setting, TCP port 2869 or UDP port 1900 are not blocked.
    • Login to your router, make sure uPnP is not disabled.

  3. Almost all routers provide http webpage based administration. Open your browser, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc., then type in your router's internal IP address.
How to find your router's internal IP address? Open a Command Prompt window, type in "ipconfig", looking for "Default Gateway", as shown:

After login to your router, looking to uPnP in administration or settings menus. It could be in different place in differnet routers, here is an example of Linksys router:

  4. If you are using Mac OS and Airport as your home router, please download following manual:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/Designing_AirPort_Networks_10.5-Windows.pdf

Then, go to page 31, check to "Enable NAT port Mapping Protocol", since Apple does not call this as pot forwarding. Then try let the streaming sever do the auto-detection again.

if you like to directly set up the IP address and no auto-detection, you can go to page 54, to set up the NAT mapping (port forwarding). This way, you do not depend on the streaming server for the auto-detection.

  5. If you see a dialog pop up with "Streaming IP address and port have been set up successfully, ready to be connected from the Internet.", then you can use your iphone's Safari web browser to have a test before you buy AtHome Camera App. Set your iPhone to 3G mode, and type in:

    http://24.83.120.68:8006/test

You need replace 24.83.120.68 with your actual router's external IP address, and replace 8006 with your streaming port, and add "/test" at the end. Remember add ":" before port number.
